What happens to my license after a DWI conviction?
Once convicted of a non-felony DWI offense first time offenders licenses are immediately suspended upon conviction but the suspension is stayed for 20 days. During that 20 day period an application can be made at the DMV to continue on with conditional driving privileges so long as the person signs up for the DMV drunken driving program [DDP]. Upon successful completion of the DDP the person’s full driving privileges can be restored.
However for the repeat or felony offender the penalties are much more varied and severe. This is why you need to consult with Palumbo & Associates, P.C. immediately upon being arrested for DWI, whether it is your first or a repeat arrest.
