Effective today, November 1, 2020, NY State has substantially expanded its seat belt law. PRIOR TO the law’s expansion, back seat passengers 16 years of age and older were exempt from the requirement of wearing seat belts. This has all changed today, whereas now the law requires that everybody in a vehicle wear a seat belt.
